Assembly 2010

United Methodist Women is not a knitting circle, although we work systemically for the rights of textile workers around the world; is not a coffee clutch, although we promote awareness and usage of fairly traded products; is not a self-help touchy feely support group, although we’ve changed millions upon millions of lives in the past 140 years.
United Methodist Women is an 800,000 member-strong organizations of women who seek to know God and make life better for women, children, youth and marginalized neighbors in the ever-expanding global village of today’s world. We create a supportive community that provides opportunities for change.
United Methodist Women’s Mission Giving is at work in 103 mission institutions here in the United States and in nearly 300 programs and institutions in more than 58 countries around the world. We support mission service opportunities, mission education programs, and nurture and develop programs for our membership.
• Because we believe, we act: United Methodist Women is Love in Action
• Because we believe, we have stories: United Methodist Women is God’s Tools for Mission
• Because we believe, we share gifts: United Methodist Women is Community
• Because we believe, we endure: United Methodist Women is Legacy – Past, Present and Future

United Methodist Women assemble every four years to celebrate, lift up, learn and return to their communities better equipped for mission. Tens of thousands of women have been meeting in this fashion since 1942 in a unified effort to stay at the forefront of the work being done both locally and globally, both systemically and in charity, to improve and sustain the lives of women, children and youth.
Assembly 2010 has been themed: “Faith • Hope • Love in Action.” Chosen because it encapsulates the 140-year history of United Methodist Women, says everything about what is happening on the ground today, and is the momentum for decades to come, “Faith • Hope • Love in Action” is the energy that moves through each woman that has pledged her time for service through United Methodist Women.
